FAQ

What should I consider when choosing a cybersecurity course?

There are many types of cyber security courses, from short courses to long-term programs. How do you choose which one? These are some of the things you should consider:

  • What level certification would you prefer? Some courses give certificates upon successful completion. Others award diplomas or degrees. While certificates are easier to get, diplomas and degrees are more valuable.
  • What number of weeks/months are you able to dedicate to the course? Most courses run for around 6-12 weeks, although some are longer.
  • Do you prefer face-to-face interaction or distance learning? While face-to-face classes are great for meeting other students, they can also be costly. Distance learning allows you to work at your own pace and save money by avoiding travel costs.
  • Are you looking for career changes or a refresher? For career changers, who may already be working in a different field, a brief course can help to refresh their skills and knowledge. Others may need to refresh their skills before they apply for a new position.
  • Is the program accredited? Accreditation guarantees that a course can be trusted and is reliable. It also means that you won't waste your time and money on a course that doesn't deliver the results you expect.
  • Is the course open to interns and placements? Internships give you the opportunity to apply what's been learned and work with IT professionals. Placements offer you the chance to learn from cybersecurity experts and get valuable hands-on experience.

What are the highest-paid IT certifications?

It's not clear if there is a definitive answer. It seems that Microsoft certifications attract more money.

Google IT certificates can be used to obtain a job.

The most important thing you need to do when applying for an entry-level position is to make sure that you have all the relevant information required by the employer on hand at this point. If you don't, then you might as well forget it. It will be a waste of time to search for this information later.

Online applications are great, but it is important to also send them your resume and cover letters (if required) along any other supporting documents.

It is better to send these documents electronically than by snail mail. Employers will be able to keep track easily of everything that you have submitted electronically.

It's better to ask questions about the submissions now than waiting for rejection. This will allow you to spend less time chasing down your employer who sent you an inquiry. It's better to find out right away if you need to change anything.
